Tiny Tate, in Pickens County, is the Home of Georgia Marble. Highway 53 slows into a curve that almost makes you come to a stop and admire the abandoned train station, which sits just steps from the highway.
There are quarries and beautiful views of the North Georgia Mountains in Tate too but most eyes and thoughts are on the historic depot, at least until 53 straightens out again and stretches to Dawsonville, miles and miles ahead.
SauroMotel Bonus: I bet your elementary school wasn’t made of marble.
